  • Overview of fiber optic applications and installations 

  • Communications systems utilizing fiber optics 

  • Fiber optic components appropriate for fiber optic networks

  • Installing of premises and outside plant fiber optic cable 

  • Splicing and termination 

  • Testing fiber optic components cable plants 

  • Hands-On Lab Exercises including hands-on splicing, termination and testing

  • Classroom sessions in all types of splicing, including fusion and mechanical splicing. 

  • Hands-on training in appropriate splicing types including placement of the splice into a splice tray and closure. 

  • Classroom sessions covering all tests equipment, methods and standards 

  • Inspection and cleaning connectors correctly 

  • Training in both insertion loss testing and optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR testing) 

  • Understanding of measurement errors in tests
